Hormones can feel incredibly confusing, especially when there’s so much conflicting information online. In this episode, we’re diving into all things hormones, the contraceptive pill, PMS, period…
So tell me, Em, tell me about your experience on the oral contraceptive pill.
Yeah.
Um, I've been on the pill for quite a while now, probably like closer to 10 years.
In all honesty, when I first started taking the pill, it coincided with a bit of a psoriasis flare up.
And my doctor told me to take the pill and to fix my psoriasis.
That is
crazy
because my brain...
My brain is thinking psoriasis is not linked to your hormones.
So like it is not going to fix your psoriasis.
And I was paying, I was on a really expensive, I think Yasmin it was called.
It was like 70 or $80 at the time.
And I was just working on a little girl job.
I was like, wow, okay, this is going to fix all my problems.
And it didn't.
Because obviously, for obvious reasons, but I went on the pill first of all to, I guess, help my skin.
Didn't.
And I was with a male doctor, just kind of, I had no idea.
He had no idea.
We were just, it felt very... generic and just slapped on here go take this pill off you go all your problems will be fixed i was like okay and it didn't obviously and it took me a couple of different pills to find the one that really worked for me i was quite lucky actually on the gold coast i had a male gp and he was quite helpful and he put me on a low level dose of hormones which is the leveling um contraceptive pill and it has been wonderful i found i don't feel any change in my mood i still feel all of the different emotions.
I do feel still really connected to my body, which I feel is very important when you are choosing contraceptive pills and things like that.
It is, you want to make sure that you don't just sort of in this phase, like hazy feeling in yourself.
So I definitely felt this pill has been great for me personally.
Um, I also wanted to be on the pill because I didn't want the anxiety of not knowing when my period was coming and just feeling like I could relax about that side of things.
I still use a tracker.
