At the wonderful age of 94 years old, Carl Stromstedt of Orange County is a hero in many ways.

Carl has opened up his home to 24 dogs that were saved through the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue.

He gives them lots of love and attention and readies them for their forever home.

From puppies to seniors to a few that need a little training, Carl says the dogs give him something to live for.

Right now, Carl is taking care of a special senior dog named Ripley, who is 15 years old.
Well, we go out in front every afternoon when it's nice out, and I take him up and down the front yard.
You know, I can't take him down to the corner because he wears out, see? We spend half hour, 45 minutes out there in the front, you know.
Then we lay down in the grass and I comb him, you know, and he just loves it.

Kate Bonneau is with the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue, and she says Carl is a very special foster parent for them.

One of our goals as a rescue, Heather, is trying to engage with the senior community of retirees that maybe aren't willing to commit to a dog for 10 years.

but want the companionship of a dog around and being able to foster is such a win-win when you think about older folks that are just, you know, looking for that companionship or someone to motivate them to go for a walk.
