Midlife Crisis: Don't Blow Up Your Life Before You Understand This

Think of a man who builds a lighthouse.

For years, he keeps the light on, serving others.

His wife depends on him.

His kids depend on him.

His work depends on him.

Everyone looks for the light.

And at first, it gives him purpose.

He feels strong, useful, needed, like he's being a good man.

But over time, if he is not careful, something quiet happens.

He forgets the lighthouse is not who he is.

It is a role, a structure, something he built and lived inside, but he is not the lighthouse.

He is the man who built it.

And because he mistakes the lighthouse for his identity and it gives him approval, he starts believing he has to stay inside that tower Every hour, every day, otherwise everything will fall apart and that validation will stop.

So he stops sailing his own waters, his own adventures, stops having parts of his life that belong to him, stops asking himself what he wants.

He stops having a life beyond the role of Lighthouse.

And he tells himself, they need me.

Maybe they do.

But providing light for everyone else does not mean living in darkness yourself.

The lighthouse does not fall just because the man finally steps outside.

You can maintain the lighthouse and still have a life.

You can serve people without becoming trapped by the identity of being the one who always serves.

The lighthouse was never the prison.

The prison was believing he could only be loved if he stayed trapped in the tower.

If he misses that, he may destroy what still matters.
