
There is a fascinating principle that emerges from a halachic discussion in this week's Parsha.

The Torah tells us in Parsha's Matos about the Bnei Gud, Uvnei Ruvim, the tribes of Gud and Ruvim, who wanted to receive their portion, Me'aver Liardin, on the other side of the Yardim.

Moshe responded to this request and said, how could it be that other people will go and fight for the land of Israel and you will stay behind on Eber HaYardim? And to this, the Bnei God and the Bnei Reuven responded, we are going to fight as well.

And they stipulated the fact that they will go and fight as a condition in their receiving land, Me'ever Hayardin.
