When a poor woodcutter goes out to the forest to gather wood, he enjoys the delicious scent of fish frying from the fish seller nearby, but when she learns this, she demands that he pay her for the…
[gentle music] Once upon a time in central Burma, there lived a very poor man called Maw Nyo, who made a living by cutting firewood in the jungle and selling it to other villagers.
As soon as he woke up, he would sing happy songs, and when he left his house, he greeted everyone he met warmly.
He washed his face and had an outdoor shower by his hand-dug well while singing happy songs.
He was so poor that he didn't even have any curry to go with the rice, and he couldn't even afford to eat breakfast.
He then put his lunch pack and his machete into an old bamboo basket and went into the jungle to look for firewood.
He cut the big ones into sticks with his machete and broke the small ones with his hands.
He sat under a shady tree and unpacked his lunch, which he ate with the fingers of his right hand.
He knew it was the smell of frying fish that was blowing on the downward wind, but he didn't know where it was coming from, but he was really enjoying it.
He chewed his rice slowly while breathing in the fried fish smell, imagining that he was enjoying a feast fit for a king.
[wind blowing] After his meal, he drank a cup full of water from his bamboo jar, gave a loud burp, rinsed the hand he had been eating with in water, and wiped it on his sarong.
