The predominant constituent of green tea, up to about 35% of its dry weight, are chemicals called polyphenols, and the majority, 60 to 80%, of these are known as the catechins.

In green tea the most abundant catechin is called EGCG and is considered to be sort of the active ingredient in most of the effects of green tea and of note The food often blunts the absorption of these green tea catechins into the circulation and each cup might give you 50 to 100 milligrams of this EGCG.

There's been a number of studies over the past few years that have pointed to a small but still favorable important benefit for weight loss.

A meta-analysis recently done showed that on average, there is an additional 1.3 kilograms of weight loss in people who drink green tea often compared to those who didn't.

And there's some good reasons why green tea might have a beneficial effect on weight loss and I'm going to go over four of them.
