It's Not You, It's Your Hormones

Took me 16 years to learn this and I’ll teach you in 15 mins. I broke my toe this week...so here’s the pep talk I gave myself, and will now give to you to save for a rainy day. This would be funny…
So when I was 19 years old, I was a sophomore in college, and it was probably, like, three or four weeks before I went back to preseason for field hockey.
I, I had to train all summer, doing sprints, doing my little stick work, doing my little suicides, doing my little 5K runs, you know? And I took my training really seriously.
If anything, I worked out too much, and I trained too much, and I didn't rest because, in case you don't know me, I am a healing workaholic, healing exercise-aholic, someone who has more trouble sitting still than I do in getting up.
So one of them has trouble getting moving, and the other [laughs] has trouble slowing down.
Which one are you? There's always one, and there's benefits and drawbacks of both.
But I was the kind of person who had trouble slowing down, and so I couldn't slow down until the universe physically dropped a challenge into my lap, being like, "Bitch, if you're not gonna choose a rest day, we're gonna choose a rest month for you, and we're gonna break your toe, and you're gonna sit in this boot, and you're gonna-" Try to get all these, like, platform sneakers to make your heels even so that you can keep walking, but it's gonna cause you hip pain, so we're gonna slow you down even more.
And you are going to sit, and you are going to learn a lesson in this phase of your life.
My dad used to joke that he should just install some hooks on the floor so I could just hang my clothes on the floor full time, and I was like, "Ha, like hardy har har.
And one day I had a 15-pound dumbbell sitting in the middle of my fucking bedroom.
So I was running to get my phone because I, I'd just gotten out of the shower, and I was going to Chipotle.
