From the local track to becoming a 6-time National Champion, Brandon Te Hiko has experienced the highs and challenges that come with racing at the top level. In this episode, Dozer and Stew sit down…
Brandon Te HikoGuestSeanHostStewHostBut before we jump too far ahead, there is someone that we need to shout out or just need to mention, Lyndon Downing.
It's a name you're probably familiar with, Bruno, from back in the day when you were living in Victoria.
Passed away the last couple of days.
Yeah, he did, man.
Yeah.
um he was um on the aussie in the in the aussie level as well um but um yeah a park orchards um stalwart um i remember him from back in the yeah back when i was a kid riding and um yeah just one of those guys man he he implemented a lot of stuff like i feel like he was the guy that sort of took it took bmx from sort of how do i say this like pen and paper and brought it into the into the future.
The modern age, yeah.
Yeah.
condolences to his family and yeah for sure yeah he was just i don't know he was just a guy that you he was always at bmx you know just always always there so um yeah we just want to give a bit of shout out to him and his family so yeah rest in peace to him but um yeah um where to start with you man but i suppose the first thing is you the World Cups last weekend in Sarians.
Did you tune into any of that? Did you watch it? Yeah, I watched it because I'm
Oh, okay, right, as a coach, yep.

You know, like when I look at the World Cup these days, you know, it's still the same as it was back then.

And then from there, it's whoever can hang on and pretty much stay smooth the rest of the lap.

One thing, you know, like one thing I think about is if I had under 23s back when I was racing World Cups, I thought that that stepping stone would have been so much more beneficial.

And like I've spoken to Erin about it because we were like pretty much the same age.

how that stepping stone of under 23s is so important you know like example an example a prime example of this weekend was like you know you watch like riders like ollie moran and jesse asmus like they're amazing riders and when you saw them like the last few years when they were in the under 23 category how much that built their confidence to get them to currently where they're at now you know And you see them now in elite and it's like, you know, they're still finding their feet, even though they're ridiculously fast, you know, it requires you to find your feet in that elite category.

For me, you know, fresh out of 18 and expected to be going up against riders like Joris Dode and all those top tier riders.
