now i want to talk about lands but not just land i want to talk about interacting with lands and different ways of talking of interacting with lands because let's face it whenever we talk about land everyone always thinks once again Mass land denial.
Either destroying it or making it so you can't use it.
Yes, we will cover that.
We will talk about that a little.
But there are other ways to deal with land or to play with land.
Land is the most common thing you will see at a game.
Let's face it.
You're almost guaranteed anywhere between 30% to 40% of your opponent's decks having land.
yes, we're going to have to try to tackle this topic from time to time, right? And everyone has their own different opinions and ideas of what you can do, what you can't do with lands, but I do want to discuss what types of interactions you can kind of play around with and experience just to get your group used to manipulating lands.
Really quick, I want to say, I think...
i think a little bit of the bracket system is working but i think one of the worst things they did was putting the uh essentially the idea of don't target lands in it like the mass land like everyone kind of it's even codified as like an unwritten rule of like don't don't target everyone's land right and i i think that that's bad for the game overall it's like like you said and we'll talk about more the amount of good lands that are coming out is immense and leaving them alone is just not really an option the idea that we just like it's no different than just having no interaction which i do all the time for like people's creatures and stuff like that like there there's a lot of like the we we just get better and better cards each time and and lands matter decks like like i i know you you've gone way more indefinite but i just i wanted to say before we get into it i think that that's been a bad thing for the bracket system i think that that losing lands is part of the game unless they're my lands
what do you think sloppy i i'm in the same boat as uh as dan i think um we're getting way too many powerful lands and the previous notion of oh you shouldn't be targeting them you shouldn't be is really just not feasible anymore because lands win games and if you're just expected to if you're just expected to kind of let that happen because of a unwritten rule you're not going to have a great time
well even to like the again i have not read through sherman's notes he may talk about this one of my like things that i do more and more when i play like more competitively is i strip people of their important land colors i that is like the one kind of interaction i do put in and i like to target like if i'm running something like a beast within the only reason is to blow up people's like only green source in the opening hand that they have so that they can't ramp out their three color or four color deck like i there's so many people that are like i have a i got a taiga it's got a it's got a green pip in it we're good to go and i'm like now you got a 3-3 beast right i love to blow up people's like lands of a specific color because that that ruins the game plan like that that does shut off a lot of things and Yeah, that's mean.
It's not like Mages of the Moon, you can't have any lands mean, but it's kind of the same, right? The basics of the game are played with lands, and just leaving them always alone is, I think, kind of just...
it's making the format that there's two things that i think should be people should target lands more and i've talked about it more than once you should be allowed to tuck people's commander put that rule back in and watch how deck building changes what again if because i'm not penalized for building like an idiot all the time right like you destroy my commander that's fine i'm running no interaction i got way more ramp i'm always out ramping the table because i let other people police things but if suddenly my commander can go into the deck That's a very, very different game plan where now I'm putting boots in the deck.
Now I'm putting some instinct because I don't want to lose my commander, right? I think lands are the same thing.
People are really, really greedy with the lands and we're seeing things like a crop rotation move to a game changer thing all the time because of how good it is to fetch lands right like the some of the best things in the format are like like like tutors you're not allowed to like we don't want to run tutors but then we just let every green deck run like 30 land tutors in like the common card slot of like here's cultivate far seek like explosive edge like all these things right anyways i'm done ranting sharma please continue
yeah so basically like like everyone says here you know like we need to touch on lands from time to time just because just leaving it alone and like if you sit down and you play at a pod where like if someone's playing landfall how else are you going to punish them just wipe out their board well they're going to rebuild faster than everyone else just because they have more resources and a story right and like we allow things like beasts within and generous gifts things that like destroy target permanent but we're not okay when someone uses like a stone rain to destroy like something it it's kind of like you know hypocritical in a sense
yeah
right
really quickly too it's so funny that i can like i can be like here is my doubling season that i've spent six man on everyone's like that's fine blow that up get it off the board get that trash out of here and i'm like my free land drop that cost me nothing to put down and is gonna give me 30 man everyone's like well yeah leave it alone come on what are we talking about yeah let the boy cook
yeah and and like you know Like, we also have access to, like, a lot of things that, like, you know, can, like, stop the land destruction on our side.
You know, not just, like, for us for casting it, but, like, you know, the fairy's protection.
You can, like, borrow charm.
You can do all these things to protect yourself, right, and your lands and not have them blow up.
now i want to talk about lands but not just land i want to talk about interacting with lands and different ways of talking of interacting with lands because let's face it whenever we talk about land everyone always thinks once again Mass land denial.
