Saundra Dalton-SmithHostLast week, we started our mid-year reset series by asking a question that many people never stop long enough to even consider.
Is the life you're building still the life you want? If you listen to that episode, I hope you gave yourself permission to pause, not to judge or to criticize, but simply to become aware because awareness is where change begins.
Now, today, I want to continue this conversation by exploring something that may be influencing your life more than your schedule, your goals, your responsibilities, or even your circumstances are.
The kind no one can see, the kind that doesn't just show up on your calendar, but the ones that go unnamed.
Because one of the things I've observed over years of practicing medicine is that people often know they are tired long before they know why.
They know something feels off and that they don't have the same energy or the same joy.
Maybe they've even noticed that their emotional capacity and patience and resilience is wearing thin.
And I think one reason for that is because many of us have become incredibly skilled at carrying things.
We carry responsibility and Expectations of others, we carry worries and disappointments.
Sometimes we even carry other people's opinions or old identities or maybe even unresolved grief.
And because we've carried these things for so long, we stop noticing the weight attached to them.
A few years ago, I was traveling and standing in an airport watching people just make their way through the gates.
And you know how when you are getting on a plane, they say limit your items to your carry-on and your personal item, or you have to condense.
And you would see people trying to stuff things into these gigantic purses, which far exceeded what any kind of personal item size would be.
But I always thought to myself, when you're trying to balance all of this stuff, your carry on your purse, your computer bag, your coffee cup, all these things at the same time.
