I don't know if you've ever read Stephen R. Covey's book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, but there's some great stuff in there for organizing and prioritizing things.

You can read it for yourself, but part of the gist of it is that a lot of the tasks that tug at your sleeve, and may even be time-sensitive, are not necessarily the things you need to be doing to advance your life.

Another concept, perhaps of particular interest to How Not to Sailors, though, is the idea of production versus productive capacity.

Do you see where I'm going with this? You want to keep producing those golden eggs, but if you don't take the time to feed and care for the goose, you'll stop getting the eggs.

It really seems to me like there's a lesson in there for all of us, but definitely for those of us foolish enough to own a boat.

But if you don't do regular maintenance, you ain't going to be going much of anywhere.
