Can we reverse early perimenopause symptoms? In this episode of the Hormone Happy Hour, I’m digging into a question I know so many women in their 30s and early 40s are asking: Am I really in…
So if you're not familiar with this trial, it's actually a really devastating case that happened about three years ago, and it's just now being brought to trial.
And it has a lot to do, which is why I kind of feel like it's relevant to this space with postpartum, has a lot to do with moms of lots of littles, moms who have babies, like, back to back to back.
It has a lot to do with medications, prescription medications, and I'm a pharmacist by nature, by trade.
That is what I did, you know, for up to seven years before I started doing more functional medicine.
And so I have so many thoughts on this just, like, heartbreaking case, and I have not seen...
And I typically will sit back in these situations and be like, "My opinion doesn't need to be out there as well." But I haven't seen or heard anyone talking about this aspect that is just living rent-free in my brain, and it's something that I am like, man, I absolutely wish this was more well-known and more talked about or even more well accepted in the traditional medical space or even, like, the legal system because this is...
So I'm gonna give you, like, the teeniest little bit, and then if you want an episode about this or if you have questions about this, will y'all please let me know? Like, hit Reply to my email.
Like, just be like, "Please do an episode on this." But essentially, there's a lot of questions about what was happening in her brain, in her mind.
Whether you think she was guilty, not guilty, like, political-wise, I don't really wanna get into that, but when I think about what happens in someone's mind that could possibly be why you would be seeing symptoms like what she experienced and has shared about, it comes back to copper, which I have a lot of episodes on the iron copper recycling center.
In general we're actually gonna talk about them for a hot minute today, but I see minerals, mineral depletion iron-copper dysregulation is one of the biggest components to women that struggle after having babies, especially after having subsequent babies, especially after having multiples, which wasn't the, the case in this particular situation, but it's something we see a lot.
This is, like, the most extreme of extreme with depletion and dysregulation to get to the point of what she experienced.
But on, like, the most tiny little micro level of feeling not like yourself, of feeling issues with, like, anxiety, and sleep, and insomnia, and depression, and overwhelm, and low libido, all things that have kinda been brought up in this trial, you will have a component of the body being minerally depleted.
Each pregnancy, breastfeeding, and baby is taking up to 25 to 30% of your mineral stores.
Well, why does this matter? Because those are what is used to keep iron and copper regulated and to produce neurotransmitters, which are basically the things responsible for how you think, act, and feel in your brain from a strictly physical standpoint.
And so when minerals get depleted and then get further depleted, and then if you're genetically predisposed to copper dysregulation, then copper can start to accumulate.
And accumulated copper, dysregulated copper is almost always what is at the lowest root cause of things like bipolar, schizophrenia, multiple personality disorders.
