Today, I review Lies Between Us, a YA thriller by Jessica Goodman! Goodreads: Ellie Mano Email: hookofabookpodcast@gmail.com TikTok/Instagram: @hookofabook
They live next door to each other, and they have some pretty convenient last names for that setup.
In the families, there are three Gold sisters, Lucy, Millie, and Frankie, and three Silver brothers, Alex, Trevor, and Ethan.
They've all known each other for their entire lives because they've grown up neighbors, and this friendship has kind of turned into a bit of a family of its own.
Lucy and Ethan are both the oldest children in their respective families, and they've been dating for a while now.
The Golds and the Silvers love spending time together, especially before people start heading off to college.
However, this perfect summer that they've planned out could come crashing down when tragedy strikes.
A local beach party turns out to be a disaster when the host of the party, Billy, is found dead the next morning.
Who killed Billy and why? Each of the three Gold Sisters gets a perspective in the book, so chapters alternate between their voices, and they each have something pretty big going on in their lives, something that they might need to hide.
Lucy, the oldest, is wrestling with a secret that could cause her relationship with Ethan to come crumbling down.
She's trying to suppress her feelings for somebody that she has absolutely no chance with.
And Frankie, the youngest, has been doing some investigating after Billy's death and has uncovered some pretty horrific secrets.
As Billy's death wracks the island, each of the three sisters becomes entangled in a web of deceit that stretches far beyond themselves.
While everybody is getting closer to finding out the truth of what happened the night of Billy's party, not everybody wants the girls looking for answers.
And when dangerous secrets are finally revealed, the girls don't even know if their relationships will survive the fallout.
How will the girls navigate loss, lies, and love? And how does Billy's death fit into all of this? By the time they find the answer, it may already be too late.
This is a pretty short book, only around 300 pages, and I feel like those 300 pages flew by.
I don't typically read a lot in the morning before school because, you know, I'm busy getting ready and stuff, but I found myself reading this book literally this morning before I got ready for school because I was so enraptured by the story and I wanted to find out exactly what happened.
Each of the three sisters and the three silver brothers were very interesting characters.
