We Hunt the Flame

I'm your host, Ellie Mano, age 17, and for the 316th official episode of Hook of a Book, I'm going to be reviewing an incredible Arabian-inspired fantasy book that I could not put down.

We Hunt the Flame by Hafsa Faizal.

This is a book that I've had since mid-2024, when I was in eighth grade.

And listen, I have had this book sitting on my bookshelf for several years now, and I kept thinking for years, I need to read it, I need to read it, but then I never actually got around to reading it until this year.

I read the first half of the book over the course of, like, two to three days, and then I finished the second half in a single day.

It was that good.

We Hunt the Flame is the first book in a duology, and I really like books in duologies because I feel like it's the perfect length for a series.

Sometimes trilogies have that thing where the middle book isn't as good as the other two, and in a duology you don't really experience that slump because the story is more compressed.
