Today, I discuss all things Animal Farm, by George Orwell! Goodreads/Fable: Ellie Mano Email: hookofabookpodcast@gmail.com TikTok/Instagram: @hookofabook
Animal Farm takes place on this neglected farm called Manor Farm, which is run by an old man named Mr. Jones.
One night, a big boar named Old Major gathers every single animal on the farm up in the barn and tells them that he has this vision for a society where humans don't control animals, but animals control the humans and animals dominate the farm.
They follow seven commandments to keep everything in order, one of which is all animals are equal.
The pigs kind of take on leadership positions because pigs are really smart, and after something happens to Snowball, Napoleon becomes the supreme dictator of Animal Farm.
There's a good amount of conflict over the construction of a windmill, and then Napoleon starts to use some actual propaganda techniques to paint other animals as scapegoats and keep the blame away from himself.
The pigs continue to have higher and higher positions in the hierarchy of animal farm, and they get a lot of privileges that the other animals don't have.
They kind of mask this as they're smarter, they're better, but really it's just unfair.
Things even get so bad that the original seven commandments actually get changed just to fit the pigs' new ideas.
The decline of Animal Farm can be summed up in a single sentence, one of the new commandments.
