Today, I review A First Time for Everything, by K.L. Walther! Goodreads/Fable: Ellie Mano Email: hookofabookpodcast@gmail.com TikTok/Instagram: @hookofabook
K.L. Walther is known for her summer romance books, and this is my favorite out of all of her books that I've read.
She's the author of the very famous summer romance, The Summer of Broken Rules, which I reviewed about a year ago when I read it.
Madeline, or Mads for short, has a very close-knit family, including her older brother, Austin.
Katie and Mads get along, but they're definitely not super close and Mads can't seem to break through the ice to get to know Katie.
Katie wasn't even going to include her in her bridal party until she suddenly extends an invitation to Mads, inviting her to be a bridesmaid.
Mads accepts because what else could she do? And she joins Katie's bridal party rather reluctantly.
When some of the bridesmaids get together and play a game of truth or dare, Mads has to reveal that she has never been on a date, never had a boyfriend, never had her first kiss, any of that stuff, and all of these girls are like in their 20s and they are shocked to hear that Mads, who's only in high school, has not experienced any of this.
She's not currently bringing a plus one to Austin and Katie's wedding, so these girls decide that they're going to help Mads find the perfect plus one for this wedding.
The bridesmaid starts sending her on a series of dates, kind of like the show The Bachelorette, except nothing is televised.
A lot of these guys are really nice, but there's nothing super special about them, and sometimes there are some awkward moments or misunderstandings.
Anyway, Mads is pretty close with her best friend Connor, who lives next door to her, and she begins to consider the possibility of maybe pursuing Connor instead.
The thing is, Connor always has a girlfriend, so that makes Mads' job a little bit more difficult.
And she's kind of interested in this guy named Marco, who is two years older than her and is currently in college, though they knew each other a little bit in high school.
And they've been seeing a lot of each other around recently, so Mads keeps her eye on him as well.
Plus, this entire time she's trying to get to know Katie better because if she's going to have a sister-in-law, she doesn't want it to be awkward.
She'll have to look in some unexpected places and definitely consult some unexpected people to find the happiness that she's actually looking for.
