This week’s feature is Día de los Muertos Ofrendas! Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday with roots going back 3,000 years to pre-Columbian Mesoamerican and Aztec rituals that viewed death as a part of life. When Spanish conquistadors arrived, these indigenous customs blended with Catholic holy days like All Saints Day and All Souls Day to evolve into the modern-day celebration. Día de los Muertos is a distinctive event that reunites the living and the dead, and honors those we have lost. Many schools erected *ofrendas -* or “offerings” in English - and allowed students, staff, and families to contribute pictures or symbols of lost loved ones, artificial fruit, flowers, wrapped candies, candles, and other colorful and inviting decorations.  Just a reminder that you can find a wealth of information about HSD’s Proposed Bond, Measure 34-355, at Hillsboro-Bond.org. Election day is Tuesday, November 3, and most voters will find the measure on the *back side* of their ballot - so please remember to turn it over!
