Making a character in FATHERFOG, the fairytale horror RPG from Tuesday Knight Games where death is near guaranteed, so you roll TWO characters and your backup inherits your cursed Legacy Artifact when…
So to set the scene for you all, once upon a time, this land was full of hope, and the people told tales of happily ever after.
But then the fog spilled forth, wrapping its nebulous tendrils over everything, bringing monstrosities and despair with it.
Father Fog is a fairy tale horror RPG where cautionary folklore holds a lot more truth than the sanitized tales that we tell our kids.
So something I love about this system is the mechanic of shared lore.
So everything we know as players about fairy tales and folklore, your characters also know.
Cool.
So we don't have to pretend to be ignorant.
There's less meta-gaming at the table, right?
Love it.
And also, if you see an old lady with a poisoned apple, you know what's going on.
So the flip side, and maybe the, the other edge of the double-edged sword, is that, um, there's a lot of versions of these.
So the versions that you may know-
I love this aspect of the game
... yeah, and they might be wrong.
I don't like it, just to be contrary.
Yeah.
Just Mary, Mary, how contrary.
So your characters have lived for generations in isolation, and we are going to be playing some very brave souls that are finally stepping out into the fog from the relative safety of the only village that they've ever known or one of the few villages.
Um, and we're on a quest.
We're on a quest to find a resource that we need, which is hope, to bring hope to your village, to bring hope to the last bastions of society as it exists.
Um, the ele- the environment itself is a massive threat, so the fog is mysterious, unpredictable, and many believe it has a, a mind of its own.
It defies the laws of nature.
People vanish, landmarks shift, and pure sunlight is rarely around.
It rarely pierces through it, meaning things like only leafy greens, root vegetables, and fungi can actually thrive out there.
So finding animals, uh, or livestock is practically legend at this point.
