Mila took home the top prize for his project titled Lalawa i Fonua, lashing and weaving off in width, people, place and culture.
My own preconceived notions of it before coming into architecture was just like, it's nice, like flex, huts, in the Pacific, and that's sort of all we can learn from it, and there's not really any of them left.
And for myself, going back to Tonga, there's not really many original Whale architecture models that you see around, and Western construction or European-type construction has taken over.
And the only thing you see is sort of just triangle form of the roof, the arch form of the roof, and that's the extent of Pacific architecture, so to speak.
