One of the reasons I created Here Comes the Sun was to help women. To share stories. To share information. To make sense of some of the things we experience in midlife. And even when the…
Elizabeth HammondHostI want to talk about what I term the script, our script, my script, your script.
Who wrote it? What exactly are you saying to yourself all day, every day? who are you because everything you are your tendencies your mental states your beliefs the things that subconsciously is all going on back here is effectively a script and it is a script that you don't have to follow if you don't want to and it is a script that you through your life experiences through your upbringing you can argue it starts in the embryo but all of it can be changed and All of it was effectively, we've written our own scripts.
Only most of us have never actually stopped to take a look at them and say, okay, hang on a minute.
Why on earth do I jump to that conclusion? So you come across people and we've all been there.
We can't all wander around just thinking everything's absolutely perfect and kind of floating around on a cloud.
But a lot of the time, what you've got to do is become incredibly aware of what you're saying to yourself, what you're thinking and what you're feeling.
And I've talked about this before, but it's termed metacognition, which is just a kind of sciencey way of saying become deeply aware of what you've got going on here.
And I did another episode on this before, so I won't go on too much about that.
But I'm going to assume that everyone listening to this one has listened to the previous one.
And for this, I'm going to assume that you've done the work, that you have now become acutely aware of the tendencies that you're jumping to, the insecurities, the times when you think people are judging you, the times when you're perhaps not optimal, perhaps you're feeling a little bit insecure about something, perhaps you're feeling a bit anxious.
I mean, we're not focusing on the good stuff here because you've already got that mastered.
And the most empowering thing of all is to realize that none of this is a tendency that you have to take with you in the future.
