Julie GilchristGuestSummer's coming, and you know we have to talk about it because really prevention here is just such key.
Julie, how common is drowning in children, and which age groups are most at risk?

Well, that's an excellent question because drowning is the number one thing that kills our kids one to four.

There is nothing else in health, infections, accidents, anything, that kills more kids in that age group than drowning.

No one would ever think that their healthy, happy toddler would be taken by drowning, but it's way too common.

It's also the second leading cause of unintentional injury death in all kids behind motor vehicle crashes.

I think about 1,000 children under the age of 20 drown each year, so it's a significant number, and it's very preventable.

So I'm very excited people are gonna get some good information to help keep their kids safe.
Julie, one thing many people don't realize is that drowning is often silent, not dramatic like in the movies.
