What's the idea behind "minimalist EDC"? Is it just carrying as little stuff as possible, or is there more to it than that?
When they're talking about their everyday carry, they're not including a gun in that conversation.
Now, obviously, if you're listening to a podcast called Gun Day Brunch or you're at all familiar with my work, the gun is part of our conversation.
It's something that does go with us and it does become a part of our daily routine is putting on that gun.
So then when we get to the concept of minimalist EDC, what are we talking about here? It's not the idea of carrying as little stuff as possible.
That's a misrepresentation of minimalist EDC because if I just wanted to not carry a bunch of stuff, I could go out into the world with my wallet and my phone and have that be it.
No, rather the idea is to carry the... least amount of stuff without compromising your capabilities.
We want to be able to remain capable of defending ourselves, remain capable of managing an unknown situation without creating an undue burden of stuff to bring with us.
and that's really what the point of all of this is right is you know i'm sure that if you've been around the gun space for a while you've heard people say oh well your gun should be comforting not comfortable or you know you should dress around the gun right like and there's an idea among some people that you should live your life around your carry gun.
I didn't use to, for the record, I very much used to be that guy who was like, no, you know, you need to compromise your life and compromise the choices that you're going to make.
And the idea behind minimalist EDC is that the gun is just another thing that you have with you, and that the act of carrying a gun, the act of carrying defensive tools, should not unduly compromise your life.
It should not be a hassle to your daily life to carry tools to defend yourself.
That's the core idea is that what I'm carrying does not interfere with my ability to go about a normal person's life.
