Good Aural -The Audiobook Podcast
Sep 9, 2026 · 16 min · 8 segments
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of *Good Aural*, I’m looking at audiobook production through my theater brain and talking about what changes when…
So my topic this week, I... come from a theater background, right? Because that's where I was introduced to the art of acting, and one of the things you learn very quickly in theater is that you are a part of a team.
You can physically see everybody around you who is making this thing happen, from rehearsals to previews to the opening of the show.
because we're in the booth alone talking to ourselves, and we'll get an email from somebody we possibly have never met in real life asking us for something, and then we'll go into our little box, and we'll do it on our own time, and we deliver it back to them, and eventually, boom, there's an audiobook.
And it can feel very isolating, and it can sometimes give us a warped idea of what our job is.
And I think one of the things that makes you more professional, more rehirable, and easier to work with all around is learning how to de-center yourself from the production and ask, what does the production need from me to succeed? And that's what I want to talk about today.
