Um, just quick basketball news to keep an eye on.
Oh, yes, yes.
So Jalen Duren is eligible for an extension right now, and was third team All-NBA last year, really good player, and had a disastrous playoff performance, really bad, and was, like, due for a max/super-max-
Oh
... contract.
And then the Pistons have made him offers which are somewhere around, I think it's somewhere around five years, $200 million.
Wow.
He has not yet signed with them.
Well, he ha- he wants more s- something.
Okay.
I, I don't know what his side is looking for in that.
There's some weird stuff that he very well could take personally.
This guy, Ausar Thompson, who also plays for the Pistons, and has been in the league for one year less than Jalen Duren, just signed an extension for somewhere around 150 or $160 million, and I don't know how many years that's over.
But Jalen Duren was eligible for that same thing last summer, and the Pistons didn't do it.
So there's a world where he could be a little bit offended, which would make sense to me.
Anyway, there's something called the qualifying offer, that would basically pay him $9 million next year.
After that, he would be what they call an unrestricted free agent, where he could sign anywhere for any amount of money that he can get a team to pay him.
The risk for the Pistons is that would mean that he would basically walk away for free at the end of next season-
Oh
...
if he signs the qualifying offer and just waits for a year.
So that needs to be resolved this week, I think, is, like, when something needs to happen.
So they offered him something huge, and he said, "I don't know about that," and so they were like, "Okay, we'll offer you something small and temporary."
I don't think so.
