I live in the north so all of my readings are situated within and oriented around a cosmic clock set within the northern year.
We are leaving behind summer this week and moving into the final quarter of the year.
Along with the 12 zodiac constellations that mark the path of the sun and the moon, each sign is associated with four elements, fire, earth, water, and air.
And that means within the 12 zodiac signs, there will be three fire signs, three earth signs, three water, and three air.
Each of those elements hold a distinct quality or mode, and we call that cardinal, fixed, or mutable.
You can think about these modes of elements, mutable, cardinal, and fixed, as locations within the year.
We think of mutable as indicating a change, a sensing that something is shifting, this change in the air.
The reason I bother to bring this up is that it's very relevant to how I read what I call the cosmic clock and how I will be interpreting the cards along the cosmic clock.
When I read tarot, I am not just paying attention to the season that we're in, where the sun is and where the moon is and relevant mythologies and traditions associated with them.
So if we go back to this cosmic clock, we find this week we are celebrating fall equinox in the north.
Fall equinox is a season of change in terms of all the life around us, releasing fruits and nuts and leaves, and now we are gearing up for the big rest of winter.
In terms of the zodiac, we are moving from immutable earth sign, Virgo, who is associated with a detail and service-oriented role.
geared towards community care and one that shifts us into the harvest season and fall.
