Equinox

That'll be worth a look in binoculars.

Mars has its northward equinox on Wednesday, just like on Earth.

Equinox means that someone on the red planet would see the sun rising due east and setting due west.

On the planet's equator, the sun would pass overhead.

Of course, the seasons on Mars are very different than on Earth.

morning friends um as i mentioned it's a gloomy chicago morning which is in some ways feeling sort of appropriate because we are on the precipice of the equinox and today feels autumnal here um you know we catch the full scope of the seasons in the midwest and uh those changes they can sort of sneak up on you and then all of a sudden they're here but today is uh it feels like a a taste of autumn.

And I'm just thinking as we're coming into this time together, I'm hosting this big Equinox sound bath tonight.

And if you'll humor me, I'd like to lean into those themes with you to hear part of it as a means of practicing what it is that I'm going to say to a big room full of people, but also because it's only appropriate that we use these signifiers of the seasonal change, the The actual embodied lived experience of environment and atmosphere.

The felt experience of being in our bodies as we move through these seasonal changes of our lives.

So I got this from the Farmer's Almanac.

So let me read this to you to explain a little bit more.

Equinox comes from the Latin equis, meaning equal, and nox, meaning night.

That has led to the familiar explanation on this day, everyone on Earth receives exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.

Happy Equinox week.

You know, we talk about this sometimes.

Well, I mean, a couple times a year we talk about equinox stuff.

When this episode lands, it will be just after the September equinox and one day before the Aries full moon.

But I'm actually recording this just before I set out for my big Australian tour, kind of cramming to try to get some work in before I leave because it's a big tour and there's not many days off to record.

I know I'll have to record the next episode on the road, but This one, I'm still here in New Mexico, but this will land when I am in Melbourne and will have just done a big show in Melbourne for the Equinox, and will be heading to Perth on the day that this show is released.

So that's exciting.

And it's nice too that, you know, I'm recording this here in the lead up to the equinox and it will be autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere and I will be flying to the springtime in just a few days.

And now I'd like to get into this episode with you.

So equinox, equinox and the solstice, I think are such important points for us to really come back and remember because the equinox is when the earth is bringing us back into equilibrium.

And I really want us to focus on that point because equinox it's equal day and night so the sun technically it crosses the celestial equator and day and night that's why they become close to equal length and so at that moment where sort of standing at the center of two movements with one hemisphere beginning its journey towards greater light, which is the southern hemisphere.

And the northern hemisphere is beginning its journey towards greater darkness.

There are cycles inside cycles inside cycles.

Obviously, there's a solar year, lunar month, menstrual cycle, the stages of life, the darsha cycle.

the transits through our birth chart and so this is where there's those different rhythms in life and this is where it brings me back to the word equilibrium and returning to the equinox because Equilibrium has movement inside of it.

It asks us to become sensitive enough to recognize what requires more energy and what requires less and where life is asking you to participate and where it's asking you to wait.
