EP 191 - CAM YOUNG TRIUMPHS AT TRUMP NATIONAL DORAL

triumph in a tournament that was over after 54 holes pretty much um happy to be back Dan we're uh working this week as well at the uh Truist Championship which will preview tomorrow it'll just be me and Bob doing that one but um yeah I think this has been 13 for Jordan so far this year um didn't get to watch much at all um I watched Thursday and then Friday through Sunday was kind of limited but um Not good.

Not good, I don't think.

That's kind of probably my overall takeaway, and we'll talk.

There was some good, but for starters, lost strokes on approach for the second straight event, which is very bad.

He shot his best round of the year, which was good, and it ended up in T18, which is very bad.

So not feeling great, but looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Yeah, it's another very speithian week.

I feel like we sit here and we say that every week.

It's kind of Interesting a little bit that Bob's not here because in the last kind of State of the Spieth episode we had,

he was asking for more

entertainment, higher levels of variance, I think, is what we were kind of looking at.

Well, what Bob was looking for specifically.

And we got it, certainly.

I mean, through... 39 holes to speak was trailing one man and you know you can look at it as um and rightfully so a disappointment to then finish trailing 17 men um but to get a little bit of juice see the little bit of life that was there that was the 65 on thursday was the first round that was really put together, held on to, uh, probably stole one or two and didn't give back all that money.

Um, and it felt like, Hey, yeah, he played a 65 level round, uh, you know, around worthy of being in second by himself.

Uh, uh, Friday was decent on approach as well.

The concern is the drop off of those numbers as we go into the weekend.

The driver wasn't particularly great rounds one through three and then of course round four.

I don't know if he led the field on Sunday, but it was a really solid performance off the tee on Sunday coupled with a horrific day with the iron play um and it again just goes back to the the idea and the overarching like theme of the season is that when it's on and it's been on for each category for parts of the year it's top five in the field on any given day the problem is is that it's never coupled with a high floor for the other areas of high levels of play.

So it's the variance between not within the scores or within the results, but the variance within the type of play and the quality of play is just so high.

And that's ultimately what's kind of derailing some better finishes.

Think about he was nine under early Saturday, second to last group out, played the rest of the way and two over and missed out on a top 10 by those two shots.

So...

You know, it's sort of a, did it really feel like a top 10? No, but you're kind of like, man, it'd be nice to hang on to a few more of these shots and get a result that portrays somebody who played the best round of his season.

So disappointing to not be able to kind of get more out of this week, I think.
