Delhi Is So Haunted! Scary Reddit Stories

I am a history enthusiast.

In the last three years, I have visited places in Delhi, Meerut, Kanpur and Lucknow where significant events of India's first war of independence 1857 happened.

I travel alone and I have visited many places of massacre and burial.

Some are sad and others are downright creepy.

This story is from one of them.

Three years back, I visited Kamla Nehru Ridge.

At the ridge, there is a small round structure called the Flagstaff Tower.

In 1857, when revolutionaries from Meerut entered Delhi, many European civilians escaped the walled cities and spent the night there, waiting for the help to arrive from Meerut.

But Meerut had already crumbled.

This is interesting.

It's like, it has history also.

The next day, revolutionaries came here and massacred them.

Their bodies were dumped in a nearby lake.

Wow! How come we don't know this? Later during the four-month siege, this place saw a lot of bloodshed.

After the recapture of Delhi, British massacred the people of Delhi in masses.

Many of them were dumped in the same lake.

This Jheel is called the Khuni Jheel.

That day, I easily walked to the Flagstaff Tower.

But finding the way to the Jheel was difficult.

The forest is densely wooded.

There are monkeys, snakes and other small animals and there are few markings.

Somehow I reached the jeel, spent some time there, folded my hands and walked back, got lost in the jungle.

Then after 15 to 20 minutes of struggle, found my way out and left.

In the excitement and persuasion, I had not realized something, which later Shook me.

There were patches in the jungle where there was complete silence.
