I'm very excited to be collaborating with you today as we review important content regarding the data from the INSPIRE and COMMAND trials, which led to the approval of rizokizumab for the treatment of moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, which has become a leading agent in our ornamentarium.
I think it's actually a privilege nowadays that we have so many options, especially when we, for a while there, only had anti-TNF agents and were using a whole bunch of steroids.
In my career, even thus far from the launch of those anti-integrants in 2014, we now have several classes of therapies to add to our options, which at one time, as you said, was really just limited to anti-TNF agents.
And the class and pathway which has really changed how we treat inflammatory bowel disease would be that anti-interleukin pathway.
We have seen the launch of several targets for IL-23 since 2023, but this pathway actually dates back to the launch of ustekinumab, which was a combination anti-1223 mechanism first approved in 2016.
And we've learned so much since 2016 and really realized it was that IL-23 pathway that was the true triumph.
But for the purposes of our conversation today, we're going to be speaking about Skyrizzy.
But for the purposes of our talk, we're going to be focusing on the ulcerative colitis.
