Ep 54 | 5 Travel Mishaps I've Had in Germany and Europe (and What Each One Taught Me)

The first one took place in Barcelona.

And this is when I was in college.

I was actually studying in Germany and I was traveling everywhere I could possibly go any spare minute I had.

So my friends and I traveled for a couple of weeks over the Christmas holiday season.

And this was just after New Year's, we went to Barcelona.

And so we needed to travel from Barcelona back to Germany.

I was living in Stuttgart at the time and my friends were living in Freiburg.

So we had a year-round pass and we had one day left on this pass.

So we had planned to take a night train out of Barcelona through France and then that would have gotten us back to Germany the next morning.

So we get on our train.

And about an hour into the trip, the conductor's coming around checking tickets.

And at this time, I noticed that I had my foot, I was wearing boots, and I had my foot up on the heater.

And I noticed that The heater had melted my boot.

And so my friends and I were looking at that.

And so then the conductor came around and was looking at our tickets.

We showed him our gear rail pass.

And then he asked where we were going.

What was our final destination? And we said, France and then Germany.

And he said, oh, this is not the part of the train you want to be on.

This car is going, I don't know where it was going, but it was not going to France.

So he told us that we needed to get off of the train and then get on the different car.

We couldn't just go to that car on the train within the train because there were two different trains that had been put together and both parts of those trains were only going to a certain stop and then at that stop they would then disconnect and go in different directions.

So he advised us to just get off the next stop and get on the train that was actually going where we wanted to go.

So he said, no problem.

We packed up our stuff and we got off at that stop.
