π± PLANTING 500 SPRING BULBS AND PREPARING FOR A STORM! Welcome to another episode of the Gardening with Ben Podcast! It's been another busy October day down at the allotment. π· PLANTING 500β¦
What have we actually done today? Well, our main job was to plant our bulbs.
And as you know, recently I have redone up one of my flower beds.
I'd just been planting plants here, there and everywhere.
I was getting loads of plants sent to me and I thought, I'll just shove it in and hope for the best.
And yes, they did do well, but however, some plants were bigger than the others and smaller and they were oversizing them and dwarfing certain plants.
So I dug them all out, dug all the weeds out and I rearranged them all and got them back to where I want them to be.
So the taller plants towards the back and the smaller plants towards the front.
So it's all pretty organised now and it created a lot of free space in the bed and it opened it up a hell of a lot more than it actually was before.
So I thought I'm going to fill it with lots and lots of bulbs and I got hundreds of bulbs at home.
that I'd been sent and I thought I'm just going to fill it I'm just going to fill it with loads of bulbs even though we've had bulbs in there in the past we've had tulips in there we've had alliums in there and it's been absolutely stunning but I've been doing a lot of work in there recently and I've been stabbing bulbs as I've been digging in there and you know when you pull them up and you think oh not another bulb I've found another bulb as I've been weeding So I thought I probably destroyed a lot of it in there so I thought why not we're going to jam pack it full with more bulbs.
If the other bulbs come it'll be even more jam packed but hopefully it'll create a fantastic display in the springtime.
I really can't wait to see it.
So we have planted probably around 120 daffodil bulbs.
Now when I was choosing my daffodil bulbs, these are the ones that I bought.
I purchased some yellow daffodils, just the normal daffodils.
I purchased some mixed daffodils.
And I purchased some double daffodil bulbs.
I like to go for the more unusual looking daffodils.
Sometimes the usual ones are a bit boring to me.
I like all the unusual looking ones.
So we lined all them up and that lined up into about four rows of daffodils.
So when they come up they're going to look amazing.
I can't wait to see the daffodil display.
Then we had been sent a bag of alliums, all different varieties of alliums, whether they were the tall alliums, whether they were allium mollies, absolutely loads of different varieties.
Some were big bulbs, some were tiny bulbs, but we spread them all out in between all the daffodil bulbs and we've got all them planted as well.
