now that we've got back into the swing of things and hopefully doing set episodes so that you can understand what we're doing down at the plot and also we'll be sharing tips as well on a regular basis sharing different advice on growing your own so if you're new to gardening and you want some tips and advice this is the podcast for you so today we're going to be talking about vegetables that you can still plant in october in the uk well yesterday we talked about planting garlic so today we're going to be talking about all the other vegetables which you can plant and sow this month but yeah there's still lots that you can still do in October even though it's starting to turn a lot more colder now and the weather's certainly turning as you'll know it's a stormy weekend this weekend but there's still plenty that you can be doing in your shed and in your greenhouse and getting lots done while the rains chucking it down so there's plenty that can be sown ready for harvesting next year and obviously the first is garlic which we talked about in yesterday's episode we Talked about everything on how to grow it, how to plant it and what varieties you can grow.

Now if you're listening to this early on, remember it's going to be a stormy couple of days so make sure that you have battened down everything, tied everything up so that nothing blows over or put stuff away so that it doesn't get damaged.
BenHOST

as it's going to be a pretty bad couple of days so i believe during apparently due to the weather reports you know they can over exaggerate sometimes but sometimes they might not so that's just your word of warning for the weather but we're not a weather forecast presenters but let's get on to the topic that we're going to talk about today and we are going to be talking about garlic how to plant garlic how to choose the right garlic and how to look after garlic as it's a great thing to grow and it is so easy to grow as well and a lot of people make a mistake on when to plant it or how to plant it so i'm going to go through it all and hopefully you'll get some tips and advice on the best ways to grow your garlic in your garden and yeah you need to let me know if you're growing garlic as well because i've got all mine planted it's all already planted so yeah we need to talk about choosing the right garlic so there is three varieties of garlic there is hard neck soft neck and elephant garlic so elephant garlic isn't actually a part of the garlic family it's actually part of the leek family but it does look like garlic and it can be used in the same way as garlic so yeah if you're wanting to grow some huge garlic elephant garlic give them a try obviously they're more expensive to buy if you're going to be planting them and you can get some great results from them so give them a try and see how well you get on with growing your own elephant garlic now i've got three cloves i think in my pot and yeah we'll see how well they get on and see if we get good results So hard neck garlic are usually fewer and larger cloves when you're buying them.
