Why is it so hard to stop comparing ourselves to other people? From social media and success to appearance, calling and feeling like everyone else is further ahead, comparison can quickly steal our…
So guys, today we're going to be talking on comparisons.
You know, in a world where we were often told, be this or look like this, or constantly we're seeing other people successful, we can't help but compare our lives to other people's lives.
Before we dig into the messiness of comparisons, where are you currently and how do you relate to the subject of comparisons?
Yeah, I think I used to, as a younger teenager, I used to, it's a thing that everyone really goes through, like comparing yourself to um what other people look like what other people act like and kind of I think everyone goes on their own journey with that um and yeah I found it really hard to kind of like I was the only Christian kind of in my school growing up and I was trying to um I had nothing to really like compare myself in that sense with other Christians growing up because I feel like comparison can be a positive thing in the sense of seeing other people do stuff like that or seeing people do stuff and being like, oh, I want to be more like that.
But then there's also comparison in the sense of, oh, they're like that, but I, and I'm not, should I be like that? And that isn't necessarily the case.
So I think there's many things we can delve into with that, which I'm looking forward to talking about.
yeah I think yeah I've been on a lot of different comparison journeys I think I'm a lot better than I used to in terms of I don't see people on social media necessarily and be like oh I want to be like them um like I understand that you know these lifestyles that people portray on social media are often unattainable or they're only showing the best parts of their life and so I feel like I've grown in that way.
But I feel like sometimes with people that I know or friends, I'm like, oh, they're a bit further.
It's kind of the people who are more closer to my level that sometimes I feel like I can compare myself to or they're portrayed as like a really nice person.
I hope I'm portrayed like that.
how can I be a better person? But I think sometimes my brain takes it negatively as like people prefer them.
And so yeah, I think that's where I'm at.
Yeah.
I think comparison is really hard anyway, because no matter what you're doing, you're always like, oh, someone's doing that better than me.
Almost like whether it's making a cup of tea or like making, I don't know, something or other, someone's, you always think someone's doing better than you.
so I think for me anyway I found that comparisons I found comparison quite hard in the fact of like I can do something but then someone else can probably do it better than me or like they can probably try and do it quicker or something like that I think I've always found comparison like in things like that very hard and also just comparing like mental states of where people are like you see people being happy and you're like oh why am I not as happy as they are why have I got like why am I like this why am I not like that kind of thing I think that's where mine is laying with that, I think.
Well, let's dive into the messy middles of this subject.
