Nobody Wanna Dance Anymore - Tinashe with Charli XCX (Austin City Limits Live) - Commentary

On Friday, October 9, Charli XCX headlined the American Express stage at Austin City Limits music festival at the Zilker Park in Austin on the festival's second weekend.

And during her headlining set, she brought out a surprise guest, Tinashe.

Billboard reports Tinashe did a two-song performance with Charli's dancers, and it included the live debuts of Nobody Wanna Dance Anymore and Melatonin, both from her new album, Pop Star.

And according to In Music, Charli encouraged the crowd to show her fellow pop star some love.

Charli even told people to uplift her with, with just good energy.

And now the surprise wasn't totally out, no, of nowhere because Charli posted a hint on X earlier in the week, and a bunch of festival attendees guessed it would be other collaborators.

Then on the day of the show, Tinashe posted an Instagram Stories video of the two dousing backstage to Drop That Kitty.

In, uh, uh, the 2015 song they both appeared, uh, with Tyler, Dora, uh, they both signed.

They even made a TikTok with the audio.

Uh, they didn't perform the song on stage, but that was the hint everyone needed.

And the story goes way back because besides Drop That Kitty, they reunited in 2024 for the B2B remix, which was, uh, on Charli's remix album, Brat, and it's completely different, but also still brat.

So they've been in each other's orbit for more than a decade.

Uh, Billboard said it's been a long road to the main stage for both of them, and I love that framing.

Tinashe's been putting, uh, in the work for years, and Charli is using her big moment to lift her up.
