At the beginning of a new season we turn the spotlight on Tyson to understand more about what he is working on, his hopes for the season ahead, and make some bold predictions.
For those that listened in Season 2 and back into Season 1, mental game, how are we feeling about the mental game at the moment? We talked a little bit about skill.
We talked a little bit about technique.
How about mental
game? Yeah, I think that's probably a room for growth sort of department as mentioned previously.
So I think for me, one of the things I'd like to be better at is reacting less to the way the shot looks or what happens.
I always appreciate playing with people and yourself usually in this bucket is being able to accept the result regardless of how the ball got there.
So I'm quite a... a visual person on the tee, I usually stand there and try and think of a, a shot shape, whether it's a draw or a cut or a, and I want to move the ball from side to side.
And if I don't, I think I'm over committing to the movement of the ball sometimes rather than just going, I am down the middle and either side of that still pretty good.
I'm usually setting up at the right trees and have to hit a draw or set up at the left trees and have to hit a fade.
And if I'm doing that and can't pull off the shot, I'm putting myself in more trouble.
So I think mentally I'd like to be able to commit to the center of the fairway more often and allow the little bits that go left and right to just exist.
And then also I'd like to care less about how it looks on its way there.
If I thin it and it runs all the way down the middle of the fairway and I leave myself an eight iron into the green, It doesn't really matter how it got there because you've got 145 metres into the green and that's still good.
I can accept that if you get a bad break or you hit a bad shot into a bad spot, you might be frustrated at times.
And I don't think I would be human if I... or myself if I didn't get annoyed at those moments.
But I think at times where I might hit bad golf shots that end up in an okay spot, I'd like to be more accepting of those and be happier about the outcome rather than not accepting that the outcome is okay because it didn't get there the way I'd like it to.
Yeah.
Classic cricketism, isn't it? There's no pictures in the book.
Yes.
No matter how it
got there, it's still four.
That's
right.
And I've embraced that very well.
