Um, you know, and, and the reason I truly love this is I, I believe that I was meant to be a servant, um, my whole life.
Um, you know, coming into, uh, coming into my life, you know, when I was out there using, I always wanted to be able to help other people and to be involved in helping other people, and I had no idea how to do it.
You know, every time I tried to, uh, get involved with, um, helping other people, my ego always got involved.
Look at me." And, uh, you know, "Do-- I'm doing so, so many great things," and, uh, um, that is definitely not a way to be of service, you know? Um, you know, that's, that's, that's a way for us to, uh, you know, to separate ourselves a- and to make it to have a, you know, service-based recovery instead of recovery-based service, you know? And, uh, you know, basically, you know, that- that's where we, we get into all these things.
Um, and, and a lot of times we don't really get to understand what they actually mean.
We've, we've applied our 12 S- We're, we're practicing a 12-step a- and applying it.
Now, you know, where does that, um, come into play? You know, um, uh, there's one letter that was changed.
I don't know how many letters it would have been changed in Sweden or Swedish, but the difference between the word those and these, okay? There were versions of our 12 steps and, and in Narcotics Anonymous, there was a version that was passed down from Jimmy K.
And what that's basically referring to is having had a spiritual awakening as a result of those first 11 steps.
Now we have this bridge, and the 12th step is the bridge that brings us to these principles.
You know, it's-- A- and this, this understanding really helped me to deal with a lot of the anger, the resentments, the frustration that I had with other addicts not understanding why certain things were so important Um, you know, because how can I expect other people to actually understand why our traditions were so important if they haven't had that spiritual awakening as a result of the steps? If they haven't had some kind of spiritual awakening.
Um, a- and I truly believe in my own life, you know, um, in my own life that was the same thing.
You know, until I have had that spiritual awakening as a result of those steps, even though I loved our tradition from the beginning, even though I maybe saw, um, how they worked and stuff and, and I saw how anonymity is so important for, from the very beginning, um, I didn't really understand.
