It was uncharted territory for Jen, not just the online dating part of it, the dating part altogether.
There was definitely crushes that I had had throughout high school and, and things, and even sort of throughout my uni days, and there might've been, like, a pash here and there, but it was never anyone that I was able to sort of say, "Yeah, I wanna, I wanna date you." There was a couple of guys, I think, leading up to sort of moving out and things that I was like, "Let's get to know each other," but I always just got the friend vibe from them, and I just couldn't kind of see myself progressing.

But moving out of home and in with two single girlfriends, Jen was entering into a whole new era.

So she chose her favorite pics, wrote a standout bio, and got herself on the apps.
There is the excitement, but there's also the fear of, what is this person gonna think of me? And then because I hadn't given my body to anyone before, it was kind of, how do you navigate this? And how do you feel comfortable enough in your own skin to allow someone to see you so vulnerable in a naked state, and, and trust them enough and develop trust in a really organic way, even when you're doing it on the apps, because obviously that doesn't necessarily feel organic to begin with, and you know a little bit about each other, but really going to meet someone that you don't really know anything about and you've sent a few messages back and forth.
It was horrifying to think that I would have to share with someone that I was 25 and still a virgin.
There was one that I think I was talking to for a three-month period before I met, and I think we saw each other four times, and I really obviously wasn't giving him [laughs] what he was expecting out of things, but it was just because I was ready to take things slow.
So it was just like, "Look, this is where I'm at, and this is why things aren't progressing," 'cause I just...
I didn't necessarily have this fantasy about how special it would be or anything like that.
It was just-I don't wanna be naked in front of you, and I don't really wanna be that intimate with you in particular.
So I know for, for everyone it's a little bit different with their virginity, and sometimes it's, "Well, I wanna wait till marriage and I want that person to be right for me." And others are like, "You know what? It's not that special.
I'm just going to en- you know, enjoy those processes and get into it." But for me, yeah, it was more kind of, I wanna trust you enough that I could enjoy it, and I don't wanna get the ick.
