Episode 12: Eternal Mania recap – Vintage victories and Legacy losses

so we've literally just i mean it's like a few hours since we got back but yeah we're pretty excited to be talking about things so so yeah it's great to be talking but yeah so why did i pick welder cam why was i not playing painter and a few things went into the decision one of which and this is you know not not to be underestimated in terms of my decision process is that i just have not really been playing magic recently in the last few weeks i've been away And even in the bit before that, I was just super, super busy.

So I didn't really have time to test anything to my satisfaction in the meta at large.

And the welder cam list that won the showcase challenge piloted by Harry, is it 1312 or something like that? I don't know the numbers after the name, but I do know it's Harry's list.

Yeah, Harry1232, who is an absolute crusher, and he won the showcase challenge online with this very cool-looking welder cam list.

And I thought, look, I haven't had much time to test.

This clearly is working in the meta.

It's an archetype that I am familiar enough with, even though I've mostly played the painter variants.

I feel like I know the combo lines.

I know... how the deck is, broadly speaking, constructed.

I was able to chat a bit with Harry beforehand.

He was kind enough to just run me through a couple of the choices that he'd made and why.

And so I felt good about playing an established deck that you know i knew could perform rather than just sort of sticking to my you know previous painter lists that i don't think are very well positioned certainly i don't feel they're well positioned on paper and the results seem to be bearing that out and we talked about that a bit as well Yeah, we

covered your feelings on Painter.

I guess we were expecting Hassel to perhaps be a Tron meta, and then as we talked about, things have changed.

So Candelabra got restricted to the stock Tron list, got somewhat dismantled.

Candelabra got banned.

yeah sorry uh too much vintage on my mind So that rather puts a damper on Painter.

And then, yeah, there wasn't much innovation going on in that space.

And I think the new cards didn't do much to help Painter either.

And this new list looked quite exciting, actually.

And it seemed to be very popular across the weekend.

There seemed to be quite a lot of it in the room in that artifact combo space.
