AdamHOST
16:18
I'm sure he's going to be playing sewer cam and he's going to be like top 16.
AdamHOST
16:21
He has been destroying everybody on MTGO with that deck.
AdamHOST
16:25
So I, I think the deck is going to be very powerful.
AdamHOST
16:28
Also, like in Oklahoma, over the summer, that deck was really popping off too.
MillerHOST
35:06
The reason it's specific to Pauper is...
MillerHOST
35:09
Because this type of thing has shown up in other formats, but it's more important for Pauper because Pauper usually gets played online on MTGO rather than in person.
MillerHOST
35:20
There are decks that... are significantly better in person because you can take shortcuts in a way for for like stuff you were doing
AlexHOST
35:33
you're like i'm gonna i'm just gonna tell you where all my triggers go i'll put this card exactly where it's supposed to go yeah like you're not cheating the middle years is way better in paper
MillerHOST
35:41
Yeah, stuff like that.
MillerHOST
35:43
There's stuff that is legitimately a really good deck that is a sizable meta threat and it's something you should think about.
MillerHOST
35:50
But also, if you look at the metagame for the format, it is like, nobody is doing this on MTGO.
MillerHOST
35:58
because you are on a chess clock and you are going to get owned if you try to click through all this stuff.
Andrei BlantonHOST
29:28
I've been too busy, so I have to give that a chance.
Andrei BlantonHOST
29:30
I still have, are you on MTGO or Arena more for
Sam BlackGUEST
29:33
drafting? I play very little of either, but Arena.
Andrei BlantonHOST
29:37
Arena, yeah.
Dan AtkinsHOST
64:42
But that is a good point to make.
Dan AtkinsHOST
64:44
But I think another good resource is obviously Magic Online.
Dan AtkinsHOST
64:47
If you play in leagues, you're going to play against a whole bunch of stuff.
Dan AtkinsHOST
64:49
If you want to get a little bit more targeted testing against some of the more prominent decks in the format, playing a challenge is a really good resource and a really good way of doing that.

Dan AtkinsHOST
81:36
Mm-hmm.
Dan AtkinsHOST
81:38
Yeah, that'd be great.
Dan AtkinsHOST
81:39
If you want a little bit extra practice, next Saturday is the Legacy Showcase Challenge on Magic Online.
Dan AtkinsHOST
81:44
So a lot of really good players.
MarkHOST
9:58
Now, they tried to say that Secret Lairs aren't a regular Magic product, and they shouldn't really be considered for the poor performer.
MarkHOST
10:06
But this created a backtrack from them because pretty much the unwritten rule is that if a card's been printed in paper or is on Magic Online at Common, it is proper legal.
MarkHOST
10:18
Something that happened at my local store at a pre-release when somebody was talking about Magic Online, And they went and said, oh, yes, if it's cards online for Magic, that means it's cards that are on Arena, right? And I'm like, no, there's actually another programme called MTGO, yeah, Magic, yeah, the Gathering Online, yeah, which predates it.
MarkHOST
10:38
And this kind of got me thinking that actually...
MarkHOST
10:41
Maybe there are newer players out there that also get confused by the fact that actually, you know, Arena is an online client and maybe the cards on Magic Arena should be considered Pauper legal if they're common, you know, on Magic Arena as well.

8 MINS LATER

MarkHOST
19:13
It would be something I would actually like to see.
MarkHOST
19:16
Overall, I know most of us listening to this podcast are like established pauper players.
MarkHOST
19:22
we know what magic arena is we know what magic online is we know what paper magic is and we know the difference yeah for pauper legality purposes but after the recent incidents with secret lair zeta yeah where the lines were blurred i just think that going forward it might just be something to consider for the future that maybe we do include the cards from arena yeah in pauper as a whole just to make it that bit simpler And if that means we have to ban or review certain cards when that change comes into place, then so be it.
Peter PlankHOST
0:03
I think mostly in the Japanese scene.
Peter PlankHOST
0:05
And we have a few of the American players testing it out on MTGO.
Peter PlankHOST
0:10
It's definitely below the surface now.
Peter PlankHOST
0:13
But yeah, it's something that you can actually see going into a bigger tournament.

12 MINS LATER

Peter PlankHOST
12:23
There's some trying out there.
Peter PlankHOST
12:25
I think mostly in the Japanese scene.
Peter PlankHOST
12:27
And we have a few of the American players testing it out on MTGO.
Peter PlankHOST
12:32
It's definitely below the surface now.
Sam BlackHOST
12:08
Another is to record your games.
Sam BlackHOST
12:12
This is pretty easily done on like Magic Online or Arena.
Sam BlackHOST
12:16
and then go over the replays and look at what you could have done differently, maybe anywhere where there was a spot where you noticed there were two players and you thought both of them were reasonable, and you did one of them, you can maybe look back at how you think the game might have played out in hindsight if you'd done the other one, or just look and see if you can find anything that you did that in hindsight, when you're out of that game, you recognize as an obvious blunder.
Sam BlackHOST
12:45
Maybe like write that down and try to find trends in the kinds of mistakes that you're making.
Marshall SutcliffeHOST
43:39
in the arena cube.
Marshall SutcliffeHOST
43:40
This is like the headliner for me because I've more or less missed this card because I've pretty much switched to drafting on the power cube on arena rather than magic online.
Marshall SutcliffeHOST
43:51
I still have magic online and I can do it, but you know, from ease of use and stuff, I just jump onto arena and, And, uh, and this is a card that Luis has talked about a lot as being part of one of my favorite decks, which is the lands based deck.
Marshall SutcliffeHOST
44:03
And we haven't had access to it.
Marshall SutcliffeHOST
44:04
Bail off prime is now on arena and in the cube.

Zach BarashGUEST
57:15
Certainly.
Zach BarashGUEST
57:17
And also, I think twin... is not the strongest two-card click-intensive combo.
Zach BarashGUEST
57:25
Twin, I would say, was probably stronger in 2014, 2015 Magic Online Vintage Cube than it is today because half the decks at the table were running few-to-no creatures, so a lot of decks ran minimal disruption or couldn't kill a Deceiver Axe arc.
Cameron SchindlerHOST
50:47
Speaking of,
James HieronimusHOST
50:48
I do want to, while we're on the topic of Baleful Strix, I just took a look at, before, while we were recording earlier, I wanted to see the 5.0 dump for Magic Online.
James HieronimusHOST
51:00
The number of blue-black fairies decks is insane.
James HieronimusHOST
51:06
Good lord.
Michael SimonettiHOST
24:31
Yeah, these are all things I agree with.
Gerry ThompsonHOST
24:33
Well, so then where does that leave you? Are you still trying to life gain or you think landfall would be good? Again, if life gain is 12% of the Magic Online winner's metagame, I think life gain is maybe going to be like 8% at the Grand Prix.
Michael SimonettiHOST
24:53
Yeah.
Michael SimonettiHOST
24:55
I forgot to mention this earlier.
Michael SimonettiHOST
29:35
Yeah, I mean...
Michael SimonettiHOST
29:37
How, you know, like, let's say like 15 years ago, how fast would paper react to Modo? Like, did you have like a heuristic for this or was it just like...
Gerry ThompsonHOST
29:47
It's always been kind of similar, where any Open or PTQ or Grand Prix I went to was definitely not representative of Magic Online, where anyone who logs into Magic Online is, by definition, just hyper-invested in the game and... trying to play at a higher level and just being a little bit more invested in general where like, they know what's going on.
Gerry ThompsonHOST
30:16
They know what decks are good.
