Overwhelmed? I got an analogy, information and tools for you. What helps you when you feel overwhelmed?
So for me personally, what happens is...
I get a lot of anxiety over all of the things that I have to do.
And then they keep on cycling through my brain of like, these are all of the open tabs that you have.
And the more that my brain cycles through that, the more anxiety I get, the more overwhelmed I become.
And then I get into a state of freeze.
So it's like you are well aware of everything you need to do, but you can't do it.
And today I just want to share a few tips on how I get myself out of that overwhelmed cycle and out of that freeze state.
And maybe some of these tools are helpful for you and maybe they're not.
So take what resonates and leave the rest.
The first thing that I like to do when I know that I'm in this state of freeze overwhelm and freeze is I brain dump so I grab a piece of paper and I write at the top brain dump and I allow my anxiety to speak I put on a five minute ten minute timer whatever or I write until I feel like it's complete So, I just write anything that comes to my mind.
Anything.
Like, I can't believe that I still haven't done this, this, and this.
This is what's really stressing me out.
This is what needs to be done immediately.
And even the most randomest shit, I just give my brain time to have a freak out.
Time to, like, unload everything that has been trapped up in my brain.
Everything that I've been spiraling about, everything that keeps me up at night, I give myself time and space to get it out on paper.
Now, depending on the state of overwhelm, sometimes this overwhelms me even more, but 99% of the time it makes me feel better because instead of it spiraling out of control and my mind being like, don't forget about this, don't forget about that, don't it gives it a place to land like that piece of paper acts as a place for it to land.
So I don't have to remember it anymore.
I don't have to have that fear of forgetting because it's all put on a piece of paper.
Um, so I find that very helpful.
And after you do that, if you do get into more of a state of overwhelm, shake your body, shake it out, just invite some movement.
Um, Even like wiggling your fingers and your toes or anything just to signal to your brain or your nervous system, hey, it's not a threat.
We're still here.
We're still present with our body.
