A beginner magician walks into a magic shop and gets overwhelmed fast. Now imagine he works there. Emilio joins us from the Alakazam team to build his Desert Island list: eight tricks he’d keep…
So if you haven't heard the episode before, the idea is that we're about to maroon Emilio on his very own magical island.
When he's there, he's allowed to take eight tricks, banish one item, take one book and one non-magic item that he uses for magic.
And of course, it's season three, so he gets a welcome pack.
This is a normal deck of cards.
So let's find out what would you do with your standard everyday normal deck of cards?
It's one of the first tricks that I've done in sort of like a walkabout situation, sort of not professional environment, but just doing it out and about to people that aren't magicians or family members.
And it's sort of one of the tricks that has also sparked me wanting to be a professional magician as well, because I got stuck in India for a wedding and my mum threw me in the deep end.
And then all of a sudden you snap your fingers and then they're all the way up apart from one card, their signed card.
So what makes this so approachable to someone just starting Magic then? So why was this the one that you put in your welcome pack?
I think it's an easier trick, and there's only a couple of things that you've got to do.
You've got to do one control, and actually, no, one move, one control that you've got to do in it, and I think it is a very basic trick as well.
I certainly, when I started performing this trick, I didn't know hardly any controls or slights, and I managed to do it pretty easy.
So which version do you do? I do the slop shuffle version and it's just stuck with me ever since and I love it.
