You know that vague, heavy feeling that you're stuck at your job? This week, Maddie turns it into an actual number. In ten minutes, calculate your personal "walk-away number" — the amount that would…
Hello, it's Maddie here and welcome back to CFO Corner.
And here's a question I want you to sit with for a second.
If your job disappeared tomorrow, or if you just woke up done altogether, how long could you go before panic set in? Maybe it's a month, a week? Is this something that we would stress about immediately and find a new job? Or are we not really flinching? Most of us have maybe never even really thought about that.
We just carry around this vague, heavy feeling that we're stuck.
Stuck in the job, stuck in the schedule, stuck saying yes to things we've outgrown without ever calculating exactly what it would take to not be stuck anymore.
I've been there myself.
A job that paid well, looked great on paper.
And yet I still found myself dreading Sunday nights.
I always had this impending dread about work.
And a lot of it was because I thought I had to be there for the next 30 or 40 years because I had never actually run the math on what leaving would cost me.
I never took the time to figure out a number to work towards to be able to leave that job.
And that vague feeling of feeling stuck at a job because of the pay, because of benefits, that's what we call golden handcuffs.
And if you caught our episode on this already, you know how sneaky the golden handcuffs are.
Good salary, decent benefits, like we just said, maybe some investing equity, all quietly convincing you to stay put even when you don't want to.
So, Today, we're going to calculate your freedom number, the actual dollar figure that would let you walk away on your terms without panic.
10 minutes, one number.
Let's get to it.
