"When it comes to racing top bulb and bottom bulb (same day or not), why do you think some racers elect to switch between box and no box even when they are clearly better with no box? I watch a few…
There are racers that are just incredible bottom bulb racers that, for whatever reason, are, like, typically more consistent or better, if you will, on the bottom than they are the top.
Like, I, I think my co-instructor in This Is Bracket Racing, uh, Elite and This Is Bracket Racing Junior, Justin Lamb, I think he would probably raise his hand and say that.
Um, I'm trying to think of racers that routinely do both, right? And, and because I think, like, um, Nick Hastings or Lucas Walker, like, I can count on one hand the times that I've seen them even attempt to hit the b- the top.
I think if they poured the same amount of energy into it, I think they'd be really good top bulb racers, right? But there are a, a, a few that just seem to be better off the bottom, and I don't have a great explanation for that.
What I will say is, like, they're the one percenters, or, like, the less than 1%, right? [laughs] Anyone else, myself included 100%, right, and I do a fair amount of, of, of racing on both sides, um, if given the opportunity to use a delay box, I'm gonna use a delay box.
It's what you're saying, Eric, and, and whether you're looking at a, at a small sample size or not, there are drivers who can just stack runs together off the bottom.
And by, at the end of a day or a weekend or maybe even in large part, like, a season, you go, "Man, like, why bother with the delay box?" But I'll say this, and again, this is more for me, but I do think it is applicable to the vast majority of racers, is that I'm not great on the bottom bulb.
And when I have a, a good day, like, I can really group lights together on the bottom, and I could have a day where I'm, like, no worse than 20, right? Which is kind of similar to what I can do with the box.
The problem for me, or the, the reason that I would always utilize a delay box is when I box race, like, a miss is 20.
Like, I just, I, I'm not gonna have many lights worse than that, right? And when I bottom bulb race, I can, like I said, I, I can group it within that range, and I think a lot of, a, a lot of good racers can.
Like, I can be 40, 50, 60 even on the bottom, and that just doesn't happen on the top.
So for me, even though the, uh, like, there's a, there's a sta- statistical term for this, like the, the normal devia...
