The Competition Eliminator championship chase might be the most compelling story in sportsman drag racing right now. Joe Carnasciale has put together a nearly perfect season with seven wins, one…
I wanna take a deep dive on competition eliminator because for my money, the competition eliminator points chase is the most intriguing, the most riveting, the, I'll say, biggest story in sportsman racing as of right now.
Why is that? Because Joe Carneschell has put together a season for the ages, and closed that season with a home run performance with the, uh, the biggest stakes imaginable on the line.
He went into the Rockingham National event and basically, despite having a nearly perfect season, had to feel as though he had to win the event to be a serious contender for the world championship or to put his stamp on the world championship, and he went out and he did just that.
I guess if there was a divisional event remaining that Joe Carneschell attended that went five rounds instead of four, perhaps there's another 10 points on the table for him.
But at this point, you only get to claim eight races in... for, for an NHRA world championship in any of the sportsman categories, including competition eliminator.
Joe Carneschell has seven wins and one runner-up, so he is literally one round shy of a perfect season and has a monster score of 659 points.
That's nearly perfect, so the championship should be over, right? It's not over.
