Cheryl, how many people talk to you that are in desperate need of new people?
Right at this point in time, practically all of my clients, plus people that aren't my clients, are calling in.
I don't know what it is, if it's the heat that causes it or whatever, but it seems to be an ongoing thing right now.

So today, I think this is one of the greatest challenges facing home services out there.

Where are tomorrow's technicians going to come from? And even down to where is today's technicians going to come from? If you spend much time talking to owners in chimney, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, fireplace, appliance, construction, and any other skilled trade, you're going to hear the same thing.

And when they do find us, are we giving them a compelling reason to choose the industry we're in? We see jobs advertised, technician wanted, helper needed.

Experience preferred, must have driver's license, starting paid $20 an hour.

And we sit here and wonder, why aren't these ambitious young people beating down our doors? Well, this is what we're going to explore today.

Are we trying to fill jobs when we should be building careers? Because to be honest with you, it's a tremendous difference.
