Uh, we had a, a, um, Radio New Zealand, uh, poll, Radio New Zealand Reid Poll out today, and a couple of interesting things in that.

National didn't do anywhere near as badly as I imagined they would, um, in the, at the time, uh, of the challenge to the leadership.

But what did it show? It showed, uh, unsurprisingly, the, uh, Opportunities Party is the kingmaker.

Uh, I think the right-of-center coalition was able to get 59 seats between them, the left-of-center coalition 55.

So the six seats that, uh, Opportunities would gain will determine what the outcome is.

Um, tell us, Chris, what's your sense of what the, uh, the big issues in the, the campaign are going to be?

Well, it looks as though, and it's always the case, health is gonna be a big issue.

It, it, it, it is a, um, a dreadful, uh, or dreadfully difficult portfolio, so hugely important.

Uh, going back to Waiar Creech, you may recall in his last year, um, well, Bill English had moved to treasurer, and as part of that he gave up the health portfolio and Waiar took it over.

And Waiar was a real eger for punishment because he had been Minister of Education.

I remember saying, "Why the hell would you take over the health portfolio?" He said, "Oh, it's very interesting." And so, um, every Minister of Health that I've witnessed in my time in politics has found it extraordinarily hard.

Now, he was an unmitigated disaster and had to be moved to defense, and then they moved him off to Washington where he died.

Um, uh, and look, I, I don't want to offend Mark Mitchell, but it was his grandad.

And then, uh, y- George Gear took over, and George was a formidable politician, and, um, he, uh-

But you could go through all the various ministers of health since I've been a sort of a political addict and say they've all had a hard time.

So I expect that Simeon is in for a hard time, uh, with the health portfolio.
