Years later, notorious predator Larry Murphy emerged as the prime suspect.
In 2000, Murphy was convicted of the abduction an attempted murder of another woman, a victim he was caught dragging into the Wicklow Mountains when two hunters intervened.
Some believe Murphy is responsible for Deirdre's disappearance, but no charges have been brought.
