How Persecutor Nearly Won Grand Contest

Brian, a.k.a. Emperor Igor, second place at the very first Grand Contest, which is a hell of a feat.

So first off, congratulations, and second off, with Persecutor?

I'm going to be honest with you, Zach.

I didn't anticipate this outcome going into it.

But I'm pretty stoked that this is how it came out.

So, so I guess, first of all, like we've got, you know, I'll, I'll bring up the deck in a second, but first let's talk about persecutor as a choice for an avatar.

And I'm no stranger to choosing an avatar.

Not a lot of people want to talk about or play.

I'm, I'm the enchantress guy for sure.

But why, why persecutor over say battle mage for its ability to attack or pathfinder for its ability to move? Like what brought you to persecutor?

Well, um, Part of that is kind of when, has to do kind of a little bit when I started playing Sorcery, which was right after the Druid Errata came out.

Okay.

In the beginning of December.

Right when you thought that came out,

pretty much.

And I was pretty excited about the Druid as an avatar.

And,

you know, saw the way it looked and was like, oh, bummer.

Yeah.

Um, but I think that, um, I think that persecutor is able to function in a lot of the ways that, um, made Druid good, which is, you know, moving Tawny around and using positional fire and water spells to control the board a little bit.

So I saw persecutors movement ability, um, And thought that, you know, trying to play it that way, just have Persecutor be Tawny, basically.

Yeah.

With an extra power.

Sounded pretty good to me.

And then I don't play, or I haven't yet played in the Sorcery Summit.

And I saw that some of the folks over there, Rayutris and Fran McStein, were playing around with Control Persecutor builds recently.

really cool.

So I kind of followed along with what they were doing, looked at their deck lists and used that to inspire them.
