Singing in an Ascension Day service with our school choir, we always used to go up to the Church of All Hallows by the Tower and sing Evensong there, which was the only time I ever sang Evensong at that stage in my
life.

And we sang this anthem, God Has Gone Up, which was composed by... by Finzi for St Cecilia's Day for a service at St Sepulchre's Church in Hoban in 1951.

I haven't had that many opportunities to do it in recent times, but I have been... working at royal holloway with the choir there in recent months and was fortunate enough to be there on ascension day and we got to sing this so here's a chance for us to enjoy god has gone up by gerald finsey so Lord, we'll sound the trumpet's reveries
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.
Sing praises out, sing praises out.
Sing praises out, sing praises out.
Sing praises out, sing praises out.
¦ ¦ ¦ In things I see, when a starting water's dry, it takes
a
very long time
to attend.
And in attending, roads of my dreams, roads of my
dreams, roads of my dreams, roads of my dreams, . . . . . .
Thank you.
Sing praises, sing praises out, sing praises out.
To the kings, the kings in the nation of Christ.
In the hands of God, in the hands of God.
In the hands of God, in the hands of God.

Music for St Cecilia's Day by today's composer Gerald Finsey, God Is Gone Up, the words by Edward Taylor and the performance there, appropriately enough, The Finsey Singers directed by Paul Spicer.
