EUV light sources, custom AI chips, and Step5 Preview. Edge AI and physical robots. Produced and provided by lawyer Kyungjin Kim. Follow on Apple Podcasts: China AI, Robotics & Semiconductor Briefing…
Kyungjin KimHostWell, to really grasp the scale of this, we have to start at the absolute bottom of the technology food chain.
We have to look at the machines that make the machines.
Because without the physical hardware, all those grand software dreams, like the artificial intelligence, the autonomous robotics, they just die on the vine.
They are entirely dependent on semiconductors.

Yeah, it always comes back to the chips and, um, more specifically, the immensely complicated machines that print those chips.
Exactly.

The briefing highlights an event at the Shanghai Industry Fair, featuring a company called Landau Swayan.

Uh, they were founded by a team out of Tsinghua University led by Dr. Wang Hao just recently in 2024.
Yeah, quite recently.
And, um, this is a critical development.
Like, an EUV light source is the literal heart of an advanced lithography machine.
If you want to manufacture the most advanced microchips in the world, you know, anything seven nanometers and smaller, the stuff that powers modern AI, you absolutely must have EUV technology.

And just to give you some context on why this is the Holy Grail of tech, for years, this technology has been an impenetrable monopoly held by one Dutch company called ASML.
Yeah.

I- it's kind of like instead of just sitting down to write a book, you're insisting on smelting your own iron and building a printing press from scratch before you write a single word.
That's a perfect way to conceptualize it.
